Washington shapshots [day 1]

Even at 5:30pm, the humidity in D.C. is appalling and I am drenched with sweat within five minutes of running. This inconvenience being mentioned, it is a great time to enjoy the city. I thus went from the Conference Center to the Washington monument by the White House and along the National Mall by the Smithsonian museums and up to the Capitol. I regretted not carrying a camera with me when I saw a flock of about twenty geese flying towards the Washington monument with the rising sun in the background…or the grey squirrel who looked at me from a garbage bin a few inches away. I ran a few more minutes than planned to get the Sunday edition of The New York Times, although it took me much less time than in Oxford!
