    I don’t like the “whether it works” formulation. Effects will vary; it’s not an on-off switch, and I think this attitude has caused lots of problems in both directions. From one direction there’s the mistaken attitude that if something is found to “work,” it is universally effective; from the other direction, there’s the mistaken attitude that if something is not found to “work,” its effect is zero.
