    Why do you think this is surprising?
    Now that Mrs Merkel will just be an ordinary citizen she is free of any political considerations in her choice of indulgences. As far as I know this was a big hit in her youth in the GDR. So it makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

      Sure! It was not intended as a criticism, more as a statement that Angela Merkel was still able to surprise us as a multifaceted personality. Sie schaffen das!
