The Paris Foundation for Mathematical Sciences [FSMP] is launching calls for

• senior excellence chairs [deadline 30 November]
• post-doctoral positions [deadline 30 November]
• Master grants [deadline 9 February for students studying abroad and 9 May for students studying in a Paris university]

AI for the sciences [PhD funding]

Our mega-university, PSL, is calling PhD candidates to apply for one of the 15 PhD scholarships supported to work on one of the 24 PhD topics proposed in the call. Deadline is 22 February 2021, the only constraint for applicants being that they must have stayed or studied less than 12 months in France, since 27 Feb 2018 … Here are some of the 24 topics:

• # 5 : Dark energy studies with the Vera Rubin Observatory LSST & Euclid – Developing a combined cosmic shear analysis with Bayesian neural networks (Observatoire de Paris – PSL)
• # 2 : AI-supported optimisation of multi-actor energy systems enhanced with privacy & confidentiality preserving data sharing (Mines Paris – PSL)
• # 20 : Unsupervized learning of causal graphical models from time-resolved cell biology data (Institut Curie)
• # 22 : A computational and artificial Intelligence approach for studying dolphin communication (Ecole Normale Supérieure – PSL)
• # 23 : Machine learning for biodiversity monitoring (EPHE – PSL)

mathematical understanding of neural networks through mean-field analysis [PhD studenship]

Arnaud Guillin and Manon Michel from the Université Clermont-Auvergne are currently looking for PhD candidates interested in the mathematical analysis of neural networks via the tool of mean-field analysis. With full funding available. Candidates can contact Arnaud Guillin at uca.fr.

PhD studenships at Warwick

There is an exciting opening for several PhD positions at Warwick, in the departments of Statistics and of Mathematics, as part of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematics and Statistics newly created by the University. CDT studentships are funded for four years and funding is open to students from the European Union without restrictions. (No Brexit!) Funding includes a stipend at UK/RI rates and tuition fees at UK/EU rates. Applications are made via the University of Warwick Online Application Portal and should be made  as quickly as possible since the funding will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
