I took the opportunity of my weekend trip to Gainesville to order a pile of books on amazon, thanks to my amazon associate account (and hence thanks to all Og’s readers doubling as amazon customers!). The picture above is missing two Rivers of London volumes by Ben Aaraonovitch that I already read and left at the office. And reviewed in incoming posts. Among those,
- The Dark Defiles, which is the final volume of Richard Morgan fantasy trilogy, which took quite a while to get out, and hopefully keeping up with the terrific first two volumes;
- Fool’s Assassin of the Fitz and the Fool Trilogy, the first volume of a new Fool trilogy by Robin Hobb, twenty years later. The first trilogy was clearly the best so I am eager to check if she manages to reproduce the magic of these. (My last Hobbian experience was with the second Liveship trilogy and it was not in par with the other ones, if an easy read at the hospital.);
- The Slow Regard of Silent Things, a short Patrick Rothfus on-the-side novel, expanding on the character of Auri, who lives around the University library. Always promising, given Rothfus’ literary style, but a huge disappointment [bordering on resentment!] given that I first thought the third volume of the Name of the Wind had come out!;
- I Remember You: A Ghost Story, another Icelandic novel by Yrsa Sigurdardottir , more because it takes place in Iceland than because of the style, as I found the previous novel was somewhat missing in its plot;
- John Scalzi’s Lock In, hopefully recovering from the Red Shirts…;
- The Luminaries, a last year Booker prize by Eleanor Catton, bought on impulse, we’ll see;
- The Mirror Empire: Worldbreaker Saga 1, another book bought by following amazon advice, another bet!;
- A Canticle for Leibowitz is actually an old book of mine that I gave to Jim and Maria last time they visited but I could not resist keeping it in the pile to mention since this is one of my favourite science-fiction books!
(Obviously, all “locals” sharing my taste in books are welcome to borrow those in a very near future!)
